Featured Project: Rebuilding Nepal

Mankha in Ruins

Mankha in Ruins

Saturday, April 25th, Nepal was rocked by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake.  Sindhupalchowk district where we have operated since 1999 was the worst hit area in the country, with over 3,000 deaths and over 95% of homes destroyed. Namlo International operates in the Tanahu and Sindhupalchowk Districts. These were some of the hardest-hit areas of Nepal, with over 95% of homes and buildings destroyed.  In 2015, with your donations Namlo was able to respond to the earthquake with emergency food and shelter, and we were able to restart our development programs.  Due to a crippling trade embargo from India, combined with bureaucratic government delays, little reconstruction took place since the earthquake, and people are still living in shanties made out of rubble.  At least we were able to provide materials so they could get a roof over their heads, but for most people the idea of living in a home that is resistant to the terror of future earthquakes is just a dream.  We’ve estimated that we need $5 to $7 million just to help the families in our communities. We have just enough to get started rebuilding our schools, but have a long way to go.  We have shortfalls for rebuilding Mankha, and Dhuskun that total $25,000, and another community, Arunodaya, is asking for our help to rebuild their school at a cost of $35,000.  Won’t you help? Your tax-deductible contribution can be targeted to a specific project if you prefer.
