Shrimaya Shrestha is a woman entrepreneur who is a member of Namlo’s women’s cooperative in Sabhung, Nepal.  These are her words:

“My name is Shrimaya Shrestha. I live in Sabhung Bhagawatipur VDC, Ward no. 7 Hatiya. We are four members in our family including my husband ,one son, one daughter and me. I have a small shop at my home and because of economic problem my husband is in Saudi Arabia for foreign employment, so I have to look after my children & also to look after my home. I have many responsibilities at home & have to manage everything by myself including household activities, caring of my children, look after their studies, and being involved in agricultural activities too. I am also involved in Dhaka weaving since 2 years & I am regular to Dhaka from then.

With the help & support of Namlo I gain the skill of Dhaka weaving & I can now easily weave any designs after look at them just once. I managed my time to go Dhaka weaving during the Day time as the community building is very near to my house. After weaving the Dhakas, I am making money myself which is making myself independent & my self-confidence is now higher than before.  I can support my kids to pay their school fees and am able to save little money monthly at the Cooperative organization from the money that I earned from Dhaka weaving.

We do have many problems in the village and also the most problem is drinking water because this is the dry season. We have to go to the well and carry out the water, which takes almost 30 minutes at one time. At the morning time I have to prepare food for my kids, make them ready for the school. and also to look after my shop. My elder son helps me in the shop at morning and evening time. I hardly manage time to go Dhaka for 4-5 hours at the day time for weaving.

We have started a cooperative organization with the help and continuous support from Namlo. I am very happy that I am now a secretary of the cooperative and I have learned many things after the co-op started. We run the monthly meetings and now I am able to write minutes, organize the meeting, and to run the meeting. Unfortunately I cannot pass out my SLC exam but still I am happy to have skills from which I can earn money myself, and also happy that I am involve in other income-generating works.

I want to give big thank to Namlo for the continuous support & help for the people of Sabhung. In the future I am expecting to get many skill development trainings from Namlo.

Thank you
