Nicaragua Nutrition Survey Begins

Namlo’s nutrition survey in Nicaragua will start this Friday.  Implemented by a team consisting of nutritionist Dan Fenyvesi, Rosario Velasques, Don Vicente Velasquez, four students from the University of Nicaragua and possibly two Peace Corps volunteers, the study will take place in five communities, with one of the communities (Las Labranzas) being used as a control group.

The study will make use of the Household Dietary Diversity Score methodology already used in Nicaragua, as well as height-for-weight, BMI, food diaries and other techniques to measure nutrition and food insecurity.  Eight to ten families will participate per community.  The survey is scheduled to be completed by April 1, and will be instrumental in benchmarking current nutrition and dietary diversity in Namlo’s program areas in order to measure the impact of the Greenhouse Program.
