Namlo International helps people travel to it’s remote partner communities, to give them an opportunity to help, participate and to learn about other cultures, challenges and ways of life.  Traveling with Namlo gives people the chance to learn about development at the grass roots level, stay with local people, and help with projects that can have a real impact in the communities.  Volunteers have the option of being involved in construction projects, teaching English, helping with a sports program, agriculture, or  learning about the the local culture and language.  Your travel also helps support our programs financially, and much if not all of your travel may be tax-deductable.  We can arrange trips for volunteers to travel to Nepal or Nicaragua for any time, and for any size –  even family groups.

In Nepal, Namlo operates in two locations.  East of Kathmandu, we are working in Sindhupalchowk District, in a community named Dhuskun.  in Dhuskun we have built a school, a women’s business center, and have started economic development programs in horticulture production with greenhouses, coffee and ginger production.  We are also looking at beginning a new partnership in Mankha, where we will begin school construction in 2014.

West of Kathmandu, we are working in Tanahu district in the Sabhung community, where we have built schools, started a womens’s Microenterprise cooperative, installed water systems and other infrastructure projects.  We are also exploring other communities near for expansion of our work, starting with community meetings and creating community plans that may include economic development, school construction, and women’s initiatives.

The types of volunteer opportunities that exist include teaching English, helping with school construction, working with our women’s cooperatives, agriculture projects, trail construction, marketing and business development.

In Nepal, volunteers are exposed to a vibrant, dynamic culture, strong in traditions, spiritual and traditional belief systems that come to life every day, and in every aspect.  volunteers also may chose to combine trekking and other recreational opportunities.

We are lining up our trips for 2015!  Travel with Namlo and get direct, hands-on experience in helping us build a school in a remote community in Sindhupalchowk district.  We’ll also have volunteer projects with environmental education, conversational English with teachers and students, school sports, and even working with local villagers to help plan future volunteer activities.  You can be part of the planning process by letting us know your interests, skills and preferred dates.  Contact us at tim@namlo.org, namlo@namlo.org, or kfrausto@namlo.org, or by calling 303-399-3649.

In Nicaragua, we are working in four communities in the mountains north-east of Esteli.  In those communities, we have constructed schools, trained teachers, built water systems and school kitchens.  We have recently started a nutrition and income-generation project focused on the dissemination of household greenhouses, which we hope to expand to help at least 50 rural families in the next 12 months.

The greenhouse project is a perfect opportunity for volunteers to help with the soil preparation, the assembly and setup of the greenhouse, and with learning a little about organic gardening techniques.
