Work on the Western Union Grant continuing nicely
Thanks to the support from Western Union, over 50 women in Sabhung, Nepal, are receiving daily classes in adult education. Once they complete the three levels required for graduation, they will be ready to start training in vocational skills that will allow them to generate additional income for themselves and their community.
Some of the women in the community that have already completed at least the equivalent of a fifth grade education have expressed an interest in learning tailoring. Namlo has purchased sewing machines and arranged for classes to be taught by an experienced teacher from Kathmandu who will stay in Sabhung for three months to teach the 34 women enrolled in this program.
We are currently discussing with other women, their interest in learning additional skills such as Dhaka weaving and embroidery. Several men have also come forward to express their desire to train in other income generating programs and we are exploring possibilities with them.
Namlo's First Community Reaches Self-Sufficiency
Namlo was founded, in 1999, with the goal of bringing education and self sustainable community development to remote areas of the world. Our commitment to these remote communities is to facilitate self-sufficiency through education and sustainable community development, while respecting the culture of the community.
Namlo partners with a community for a specified number of years, during this time engaging community members in programs that are sustainable, individualized, and comprehensive. It is the goal that after their time partnering with Namlo these communities will reach self-sufficiency. We are happy to report that Yarmasing, Nepal, the first community with which Namlo partnered, has now reached their goal of self-sufficiency.
